What is Pharmacy?

Pharmacy is an interdisciplinary domain at the interface of natural sciences, medicine, and technology. It is basically the practice of discovering, producing, preparing, dispensing, reviewing and monitoring medications. The main goal of pharmacy is to ensure the safe, effective, and affordable use and application of medicines. It is a miscellaneous science that interfaces health sciences including medicine with pharmaceutical sciences and natural sciences. The foundational aspect of pharmacy is based on fours pillars which includes pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, medicinal chemistry & Pharmacognosy and pharmacy practice.

The professional practice of pharmacy is evolving into clinically oriented drugs as they are manufactured by pharmaceutical industries. The are many types of pharmacy practices including community pharmacy, institutional pharmacy and clinical pharmacy. Providing direct patient care in the community of institutional pharmacies is considered clinical pharmacy.

The convergence of technology and science has led to new avenues within pharmacy. Nanobiotechnology based targeted drug delivery systems, nuclear pharmacy, Pharmaco-cybernetics, Cheminformatics, Neuroinformatic for pharmacy, fabless molecular designs are some of the interesting new domains within Pharmacy research.

Pharmacists play an important role in helping patients feel better and remain active. Pharmacists make a big difference in people’s lives by offering services such as medication adherence, drug interactions, consultations, and so on. Pharmacists mostly play an important role in reducing hospital admissions and managing medical treatment and chronic disorders. They’re also useful in mobile health care systems. They are also the ones who connect the dots in the medical world, assisting patients in better understanding their medical problems and providing the necessary medical treatment.

Indian Pharmaceutical Industry:

The Indian pharmaceutical industry supplies more than half of the world’s demand for various vaccinations. The Indian pharmaceutical industry is second largest in the world. It is the world’s largest supplier of generic medications. That is why India is called as the Pharmacy capital of the world. This implies that there is imminent scope for pharmacists both in India and abroad. The domestic market is expected to quadruple by 2030, according to the IES Indian Economic Survey 2021. All of them indicate that this industry is booming.

Job Security:

Pharmacists appear to be in high demand, regardless of whether there is a war, a natural disaster, or an economic downturn; therefore they are unlikely to be laid off anytime soon. Because of the increasing demand, job security will be considerably improved. Additionally, being a pharmacist broadens knowledge as it is imperative to stay updated on the  technological advancements in the industry.

It is a myth that Pharmacists are considered to be confined to positions in chemist shops, medical stores, or dispensaries as a career option. But in reality, pharmacists, have a lot of diverse range of career options. The healthcare, R&D and retail businesses are the three most important sectors that require pharmacist in large numbers.

Bachelor of Pharmacy

RAAK College of Pharmacy Offers 4 years professional degree Program ‘Bachelor of Pharmacy”  in as per syllabus prescribed by the Pharmacy Council India (PCI) Regulations. It is affiliated to the Pondicherry University.

B. Pharm. Course Eligibility

Minimum eligibility qualification is 10+2 examination conducted by the respective  state/central government authorities recognized as equivalent to 10 + 2 examination by  the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English as once of the Subject and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (P.C.M) and or Biology (P.C.B)/(P.C.M.B) as optional subjects individually. Any other qualification approved by  the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examination.
